Right I shot my first Snipe today and would like to get it mounted. Now I know this technically isn't the right section so mods feel free to move it if you so wish. Now who would you guys recommend for the job? It would also be useful to have a contact for any potential mounts of deer later on. I have tried one guy called David Astley only he refuses to mount anything thats been shot :cuckoo:  its a strange job to be in in that case. Any help will be appreciated.

Johnathen Standing from somewhere near carlisle maybe your closest but you will have to google the address unless someones got it.

Theres a gamedealer in Sutton under Whitestonecliffe. (Sutton Bank) called Roland Todd, he knows a very good taxidermist who does feathered things. My brother took is first cock pheasant and english partridge to be stuffed, they are brilliant. Im not sure who the taxidermist is but Toddy can sort it out for you.

Id agree with chrisc Tony at sweeny Todds in Darlington does a fantastic job on fur and feather i have around 15 items done by him !

He really is superb. Some of his stuff is used in the "DAVE" TV channel links (bear, lion etc). Good bloke too. He has done a red, sika and fallow for me. As well as 2 fox masks. He is now doing a full fox and a muntie for me.

Another vote for Gary Tatterton in Wetherby. I was on a stall next to him at the Keepers Fair earlier this year. He had a stunning display of work on show and more examples in a portfolio. I think you'd be very happy with his work.

Another vote for Mike Gadd, a truely stunning bird taxidermist. look at the examples on his web site - brilliant ground work as well!! he is one of the best there is

I'd recommend Gary Tatterton (01937 581077), have a Red Stag with him at present. Have a look on the taxidermy site UK, Gary seems to have won most years for shoulder mounts but the site may suggest a bird specialist http://www.taxidermy.co.uk/

The three taxidermists I would recommend for a snipe are

Mike Gadd, Carl Church, Jack Fishwick - All are bird specialists

There is a world of difference between a deer head and a snipe. Snipe are small, thin skinned, delicate, smothered in fat, and very difficult to do well.

My advice is to go for a proven bird specialist, and get the resulting bird cased. Uncased you might be looking at a life of 8 years or so before it starts looking cr*p, Cased and the life goes up to 100 years, and the bird never gets covered in dust, or get chomped by beetles and cloths moths. No brainer in my opinion,,,,,,
