Quickload Help needed

Hope someone with Quickload can help. I have just had my Mannlicher 0.243 threaded for an Atec Maxim sound moderator, originaly it had a 20" barrel but the gunsmith has shortened the barrel to 18" to miss the front sight retaining pins which was never mentioned at the time!! I occasionally use this rifle for hind stalking with 100gn bullets {Iam in Scotland so require min 1,750ft/lb and 2,450fps} and am now worried I cannot meet the energy minimum. I would be gratefull if someone with Quickload could point me in the direction of a suitable bullet and powder combination that looks like it would do the job. [I reload]

if no one gets back to you by tomorrow drop me a PM and I will run some data when I get home Thursday evening

I don't load .243 but I ran the most common powders through QL and the only one that looked ok was Reloader 17 with 100grn Hornady 2450.

If there is a powder and bullet you like just post them and I'll run it through again.

You normally expect to loose 25fps for each inch you chop off the barrel, but it's not a precise science, and fitting a mod changes the figures as well.
Best to run it over a chrono if you can.

Thanks Cooter. Hornady 2450 is the bullet I use with N160 but have H4895 on shelf. Reloader 17 looks close at near max load, nthor has kindly offered to run some alternative powders with N550 looking close. Getting powder at the moment is still a problem up here but once I do some trials a friend has a chrono I can borrow.

Checking all the powders it is going to be tight. It's a fairly big file but I can send it to you if you like.

Reloader 17 was the only one that appeared to give you some room.

Below is N160 and H4895.

N160 gets you close, but it is at the max load.

Thanks for your help, will be trying the N550 first it looks very promising. In theory it looks a lot better than I thought possible, seeing how the rifle reacts is next, not sure if the Mod will boost figures in anyway.:thumb:

Other than reducing the sound report of the rifle and possibly the recoil slightly the moderator will have no influence whatsoever.
