I last shot this small wood back in October 2014 with a nice big buck for my effort,
This late afternoon was a total surprise as I had not been up there since then; when I called the farmer telling him I was going he said…It might look a bit different!! Well he was quite correct as they had done all the hedges and reformed the ditches!!!
Last time I used an old pigeon hide cut in the hedge, not know all gone..
Only thing left was an oak tree to stand behind, at least the wind was going in the right direction so what ever come out was sheltered from it.
Forty minuets went past from my one piece of cover and then just as they do, a deer came out of the wood around 160 yards following the tree line. I let it walk out of my sight knowing if I cant see it then I might be in with a chance. I walked backwards to give me room to open up any angle also to flick open the sticks for the 700.
Shuffling side ward's looking through my Kahles the deer had stopped and was looking right at me though my spindly cover stamping her foot! Ten minute wait for any thing else to show then I slid down and up the new ditch with 120 yards to her.
A small foetus with the gralloch and off home for the usual bouncing welcome by my Spaniel…
