The cottage is full from today, when the first "summer" guest arrived, until the end of September but I thought to mention that Lewis can make the ideal destination for an autumn or winter break. As it is on the wild west coast it can be spectacular even in stormy winter weather and, in fact, some winter visitors come for the big seas and drama of the winter storms.
Salmon and sea trout fishing is available up until the end of October, though most fisheries close on the 15th of October, and stalking and shooting is also available on the island during the Autumn and Winter.
Winter visitors often simply like to "get away from it all" and the winter can produce some great sunsets, memorable displays of the Northern Lights, dramatic snow scenes and testing days at hinds along with great meals out, traditional music in local pubs and the peace and quiet of an escape to the Isle of Lewis.
