One of my most memorable early morning fox stalks was when spying an old dog burning off the night’s dampness on a sunny bank. Stalked in from above to within 50 yards. Shot was from a beautifully comfortable prone position with the 22 rimrire nestled between binos. He never awoke from his slumbers as the sub-sonic connected. Not even so much as a kick of the leg.

A good tip for finding such foxes is to simply seek out those cosy hollows where an Easterly sun casts its first rays. Locations where you would most like to take a breather and sip a coffee.

Oh, and nice pictures Mr. Gunn

Nice photo. Was out last night and there was a vixen with a cub in her mouth and another trotting along beside her. They were only 15 or so yards away and would have made a cracking photo, must get a decent compact camera.
