Leaving Scotland?

Its a subject that I find, sadly, is frequently discussed amongst friends and family these days, given recent events in the country.

10 years ago - unheard of.

Oh I don't know, my friends and family have been talking about it for at least the last 30 years. As far as I'm aware, I'm the only one of them that has actually done it though.

Well right enough I did leave for 4 years. And missed the place terribly.

However its been a very divisive time. And seems the further left you lean, the more you like to ram your views down folks throats.

Never had so many folk express disquiet about living in their own country.

I thought it was bad when I left in 1973.

Been back to see family and shooting friends, but I could never live there,

Shame I know but. Have all I need here and some,

With respect to all my fellow countrymen and women,

Bob,

I'll be totally presumptuous, is that because you are in Aberdeenshire & the oil industry is in a bit of a slump?

The reason that I say this, is that I'm not hearing the same murmurs. Most people I know are pretty up beat, more so than 20yrs ago????????????

Grass is't that good on this side of the border mty ! if I could I would live your way instead of the over price south east :doh:Iwould't be looking to find the best part of 30-40 k for the boys university in a few years

I left Scotland in 1990. Worked in NW England for 23 years and returned home 2 years ago. Best move I ever made coming back, for the wife and kids in particular the quality of life is far better. However...............the realist in me sees interesting times ahead for us north of the border!!

Agree with what you say Haggis Hunter... interesting times ahead indeed. Saying that though I think there are interesting times ahead for the Western World in general. Economically things dont look good and there is conflict all over.

I'd move north in a heart beat although I'm English I have Scottish /Irish roots BUT FOR THE BLOODY MIDGES they love to eat me .
norma :D

Oil industry downturn - nope, not in my patch. Company is 95% overseas with £25 billion back order thanks. If anything, it's the folks who've creamed it now starting to winge that gets my goat.

I think there is a real possibility that the socialist ideology of the SNP, combined with the full hearted yet brain dead followers will permanently feck up the country.

Anyway, if it happens, I'll head south. And be sure to shut, and lock, the door behind me.

Don't worry, once the snp have spent all the money, and Westminster have put them on the stop, then scotland will be paying for everything as well :D

I work away .... Miss it when I'm gone ..... Loved the sight of it from plane on way home .....after sand & monotony of the desert for 5 weeks I always smile at the greenery.

Talked bout moving , Canada , Australia, New Zealand .... Reality is wife would go ..I'm the home bird .... I'd bottle it....
If had to would have to be somewhere I could shoot & hunt , fish

I have been reading about the SNP's proposals for land reform - for the Scots to decide. The airgun legislation - for the Scots to decide for themselves, with no background evidence - dont confuse me with the facts - see BASC. No more Trident for the Scots, so we move it south and the jobs with more criticism. The Hunting bill revocation - not supported by the SNP - for the English to decide for England ? Looks like north of the border, large areas of land will become 'community owned' and field sports will end in a generation. The countryside looked nice but who would want to live in a country where you are told what to do and when to do it? Inward investment inland is prohibited and anyone who objects to the SNP is subject to ridicule or worse. The Scots apparently - maybe its the 'Saltaire'.
