I snapped my favorite double hazel sticks stalking at the weekend. I was knocking back some wet bracken off a path when they snapped. The hazel sticks were bolted together in an "A" shape, with a piece of string drilled through both sticks to limit to width of the A. The extra holes must have weakened the sticks. I now don't do this and tie/whip on the string instead.
20 minutes after this happened I spotted two deer in the middle of a field. My initial reaction was, I would shoot those if I had a bipod. Which I did! A newly created short hazel bipod. With the hazel firmly pushed into the ground, they were rock steady. Deer fell to the shot, result!
