This is a hen Lyrebird and her nest with an egg.
I took these photos some years ago.
Notice the nest site at the base of a tree.
The bird turned up a few minutes after the first couple of pictures and tried to run me off with a bit of bustling about.
No wonder we hate foxes, cats and dogs in our forests, these birds are an easy meal although they can and do fly quite often.

that's the bird that is a great imitator of sounds isn't it? It was featured on one of the David Attenburgh series and was imitating the sound of a chainsaw which it heard as the loggers cut down its forest, was quite poignant actually.
 
That's right Mickey. We hear those imitations all the time around the camps. If they hear something often enough they'll be able to imitate it.
