Ammo - TNT costs through the roof

Heads up that if you've not already noticed, the price of ammo is about to go through the roof...

I've just ordered a couple of boxes of 165gr Superformance SST for the new .308, and my RFD has just been told by Edgar Brothers that TNT are going to charge them £40 for the privilege!

That takes a box from £36 to £56 if it's only mine that's being delivered. Needless to say, I'm going to wait until a big order goes in, and the RFD can amortize this cost across all boxes, but this is ludicrous.

Edgar Bros are looking into a new carrier moving forwards.

In the meantime, if anyone say within 30/40 miles of Beaconsfield, Bucks has any for sale, please do give me a holler! I'm getting HPS to load me the same ammo in my own brass, but they can't do anything until late March as they're not up at Bisley until then, and need to measure the OAL etc for decent loading, so this is just an "I really want to play with the rifle" short term thing

Cheers

The TNT prices went up on the 18th, if you aren't within a certain distance of one of their major depots they'll also add a further charge of £1.60 (I think) per mile.

This affects new gun sales shipped to your RFD as well as RFD-RFD transfers.

BASC have negotiated with ParcelForce so trade members can ship for about £20 but PF will not carry powder, ammunition or primers. Of course you can still post your own "sporting firearm or shotgun" via ParcelForce yourself as long as it's going to an RFD or dealer, cost is around £20-£25.

One way to kill off shooting ................................... price it out of most peoples reach.

I've had a mod waiting to be transferred for ten days. My RFD has moved from TNT to PF, it takes time for paperwork and checks to be done. As the OP says, it would appear TNT want to add to their charge, an extra £1.60 per mile from Inverness to their depot in Motherwell. This mod is going to one of our lads here on the forum in Perth. I could have walked it there and back by now.
Goodby TNT.

TNT are now offering this new and very expensive service for specialised items such as ammo and guns. They had got to a stage of inefficiency that was verging on the ridiculous. Deliveries going astray, collections not done, items lost, I could go on and on. The trouble is there are becoming fewer and fewer carriers undertaking this work so I suspect eventually price will rise.

Is it not possible/cheaper from abroad and get them delivered to your door like you can with just bullets?

Time for a small specialist company to get an RFD and set up delivering on his/her own?
Martin
I think this has been looked at by a few people, the trouble is there aren't vast numbers of guns and ammo to be delivered and they are scattered far and wide.
I spoke to the chap in this area who delivers this new specialist service from Exeter TNT depot and on the day he had a drop in Cornwall, myself, and was then going up to the far side of Somerset, 3 deliveries. TNT and others have depots all over the country it would I suspect be almost impossible for a small organisation to undertake this.
