If I was you... I'd get on a course (if you haven't had much experience with saws)
The few hundred quid is well worth it!
As for which saw? I prefer stihl, find them much easier to take apart/ maintain and there seems to be more dealers around too. Always thought they had been designed a little better.
oh.. And it's the top half of the bar nose that can cause kick back
