Hi All

Does anyone on here have a Section 5 Humane Despatch pistol issued by Somerset and Avon Firearms Dept
Geordie

Could he not just use a .410 or .22 r/f if they,re are refusing to issue pistol licences .2 people i know say as long as you get "humane"dispatch as a condition its far easier than the hoops to jump through for a pistol

As it happens they won't even condition his rifles for humane despatch. But that is not the point the law says it is legal for him to have a section 5 for humane despatch

If they won't condition his rifles for humane dispatch it must be for a very good reason and it certainly wouldn't be right to allow the use of a pistol.

Is he an inexperienced shooter?

Sounds like appeal to the Chief constable and Police cheese on the grounds they,re violating Home office guidelines by refusing a genuine request with no legitimate/legal reasoning behind their stance other than we dont want to ,good luck

Experienced deer stalker with an open ticket and ex sniper from the Rifles

Then perhaps they won't condition his rifles for humane dispatch because they consider that there are already enough people on call and carrying out this function in the area should the need arise. I know of one at least one in the Frome area and incidentally he has a pistol for HD.

Even without it specifically mentioned on his certificate this still shouldn't prevent him from dispatching a deer by any humane way possible within the law should it?????

Correction I know of two but the one is also a slaughterman.

What does being on a call out list have to do with humane despatch of your own deer that you may have wounded and could possibly be laid up in a awkward place where use of a pistol may be easier and safer

Couldn't have been much of a sniper then if he's getting so many of his own deer that require humane dispatch. :stir:

Ex Sniper from the Rifles might be his stumbling block.
I've met a few ex snipers and after listening to some of their stories I wouldn't trust some of them with a water pistol ;)
It's the same as some of them that quote being ex army, it doesn't always follow that they are safe in a UK/civilian environment, some only do their PWT once a year and the only other time they have a firearm is when they are on guard or pay escort !!

I do HD callouts. Everything conditioned on my ticket for HD. I think you'll find those who might have Sec 5 pistols are unlikely to post it up on forum as they would not want to be quoted as having given the info to someone else trying to argue the toss with A&S....

I'd also second the comment above IME, I've shot with several ex services, 2 snipers. A very mixed bag. Some safe as houses, some a proper liability and one I would never ever shoot with or near again. Doesn't mean much when it comes to FAC requests..

No mate I have one but my mate near frome has asked for one and has been told no we don't issue them by Avon and Somerset FLD

So has he verbally asked and got the standard answer - "FLD says no" - or is he serious about it and made a written application for variation and been knocked back? If the latter then he can appeal if he is confident of his position and can back it up. If the former, then it's a non-issue at this stage.

There were crates and crates of US dollars shipped out to Iraq, I think it was used as 'Smoothies' perhaps I should have said money escort or ammo escort in foreign lands ;)
