towny doogooders & foxes

I have just received permission from a local farmer to shoot roe and foxes on his 450 acre farm (persistence in asking does pay off - EVENTUALLY!) anyway, he was telling me that recently he and some other farmers have become aware of people dumping live foxes in the area (he believes probably from the city). Is this a nationwide issue? does this happen on anyone elses land? It's obviously good for me from a shooting point of view however not good for the local estates and sheep farmers. It amazes me that these people complain about stress to foxes during a hunt but feel it perfectly acceptable to trap the fox, stick it in a cage, drive it along the motorway and turf it out in an alien environment with no bins for it to rake in, especially at this time of year when they have cubs on the go.

its a big issue and well documented, cant see the thread at the mo but sure one of the lads will point it out....

unfair on them and the farms...

sorry, but good going on the land as i am still smiling about mine ha ha

Happens here in Berkshire as well. I well remember seeing a white Escort van pull up and three foxes emerge, one of which just sat on it's haunches, obviously wondering where the hell it was.

The naievety and hypocrisy of these people beggars belief.

Even better - there was an occasion a few years ago, where a Pink Footed goose had been found injured and nursed back to full health. It then came to the release date.

With great ceremoney it was driven down to an area of foreshore / marsh - a well known roosting area fro geese on the east coast of Scotland just down from Edinburgh.

It was released with great fan fare from the car park by the marsh and flew off down the marsh. It had travelled just a few hundred yards, there was a caboom, the goose tumbled gracefully to earth was returned to the carpark about half an hour later.

The car park is known as the Wildfowlers car park and says so on the gate!

I wish I'd be there at the same time, your post made me laugh.

Back on topic, one farmer I know reckons the foxes from Bristol are dumped not far from him on the A38 near M5Jn14. He has experienced foxes attacking half born calves on his beef farm, so not exactly a fan.

Can you imagine that its not unknow for hunters here to trap and move wild boar to places with no boar so they can shoot them at a later date. Naughty, naughty hunters:eek:.

I suspect that there will be considerable more of this going on now, particularly since a fox attacked two babies in London (we assume it was a fox). Boris has said the the Local Authorities have to do more to control them (foxes) as they are vermin. I suspect that the more left wing will not have them shot but transported back to the 'native' environment for keepers to do it for them.

I wonder if this awful story will result in an early repeal of the hunting act or a reformation of the Hyde Park Hunt? http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/stand...ust-put-an-end-to-urban-menace-says-mother.do
