Whats the best one to go for and why,What do you have and why is it better than the others? I'm sure this has been covered many times before but want to hear what you guys reckon with up to date views.

They all pretty much state the same coverage, etc....but what i can say is that Scottish Game Keepers have consistently went further and put themselves out more for me than either BASC or the BDS.
You don't have to be Scottish to join ;)

However in light of most recent events, i'd join the organisation which i believe will most aggressively fight for my rights knowing that my subs are being deposited in the war chest - rather than funding the next 'old boys banquet.'

I am with SACS 10.000,000 coverage and a few extras when it came to getting down a dirty regarding the legislation put forward by the DCS they were there, other organisations were slow to respond reason was they had already backed most of the proposals at the secrate meetings.

SACS for me as well - even though I live at the other end of the country.

They also have £100,000 legal expenses insurance should you need it and appear to be very willing to go head-to-head with the police over justified firearms issues.

SACS for me too, excellent value for £30.00 a year.
I read the responses re the WNEB, I responded to the initial proposal after a lot of personal research, it galled me that a certain organisation claimed fame for pointing out that there were NO deer stalking related deaths in Scotland, still they are history as far as I'm concerned and from what I read in the Shooting Times 'they' wil be history for a lot of other people.

Careful not to confuse insurance cover with the other elements of membership of shooting organisations. Sticking with insurance, all I will say is, it is one of the few things in life that you buy hoping never to use and you have no idea how it will perform until you come to use it in your hour of need. I had a nasty experience with Direct Line dog insurance, all looked good on paper but when it came to the crunch, it was pants and I had to deal with some of the most insensitive, incompetent morons that walk the earth, Direct Line must have a specialist recruitment and training department in order to come up with idiots like those. Rant over! (by the way, don't use direct line!) JC

Willie Gun before the WNEB was made public there had already been many many meets behind closed doors . BDS BASC and NGO SGA had all backed most of the proposals at that time not knowing were it would lead. But it hit the public domain by courtesy of a member of the Internet sites and then and only then were were aloud to comment. That is when BASC BDS and the rest had to put there case forward to there membership. There were leading us down the river for there own benefit .(they thought that it would have been them that got the chance to do the compulsory testing when they found out that this might not be the case they started to back off and side with there members.) This is one of the reasons i was glad to see Griff get put on the BASC council as this time they might not get away with stamping on the deer stalker. Sorry for the rant but most people think this bill was thought up by the DCS a loan and it most certainly was not.

I have BASC insurance, and have never needed to use it, thank goodness. I buy BASC for the package. I can give you a link that a friend sent to me that gives you similar coverage for £20.00. But, and it's a dilly, you don't have anyone to advise you on any queries you might have, or problems with the police. I have always found BASC extremely helpful on many subjects. I still think they are the best hope we all have of protecting our country sports. It is fashionable to badmouth them at the moment, and perhaps it does them some good to have a reminder of what they should be aspiring to. I hope I am not wrong!

I also subscribe to Basc they have always been there for advice have some great member offers like the Aron scheme, and also upgraded my insurance for free to cover me for humane dispatch.
Also was impressed to see how quick they were with the curent scrutiny on shooters to stand up and fight our corner.

The problem with this post is, it is so open to Bullsh@t
what i feel is needed, is more clarity in your posting
Are you after insurance for just being a stalker/shooter/beater invovled in field sports or after insurance for running a business such as a stalker or shoot owner for your own needs
bit of clarity may help define your search for an answer if that is what you are after than trying to dig up dirt
i'll let you choose;)

Good point Stone,
The insurance is for stalking and field sports. Not connected to my work, I just want to have the right cover whilst out with a rifle shooting.

Scottish Game Keepers, when you need their advice its their 101% i did a wile ago and they were so helpfull im now joining for life.. plus their magazine is great..

All I would say is this - its your money and its your choice. There are plenty of organisations out there so there is no reason not to belong to at least one of them. As others have said all the associations offer more than just insurance, so check out what they do offer and deliver. The associations web sites are always a good start, and most should send you a copy of their mag to look at if you ask, then join the one that fits your needs… and pocket!

As for insurance - be careful - all liability policies are NOT the same, they all have conditions and endorsements on them, so check the policy wording before you part with your cash. Anyone selling you an insurance package by way of business MUST by law give you a document called a ‘key facts’ before they take your money, or read out to you over the telephone the key inclusions and key exclusions from the policy.

They have to give you a copy of the insurance policy, obviously so you know what you are buying. Again they have to give you this before you part with your money if you ask, but must send it to you anyway very soon after you have paid.

If someone tries to sell you an insurance policy, all be it wrapped up in a package, and they wont give you the ‘Key Facts’ document and will not give you a copy of the policy, you may well wonder why? After all, if you don’t get a copy of the insurance policy, how do you know what you are really covered for?

That is a very good point David
just been through a traumatic RTC where i was a non-fault driver and insured up to the max meant FA
yes i am now on the mend and got a courtesy car which ain'nt worth a w@nk compared to the vehicle i drive
it now makes me wonder what i am actually insured for and why??
what i feel you need to be carefull of , is the grey area of where you stand where money is concerned
like selling a days shooting or even the game sales from the leftover bag on the day
what about giving away a free days stalking but taking £50 for the carcass
insurances are a dodgy area when it comes to making a claim and the under-wrighters hav the final say
i don't think any of the orgs hav actually got this part right as yet:confused:
but hav to say the SACS business category goes a long way to acheving this which is a DAMN SITE CHEAPER THAN ANY MEMBERSHIP OF IT'S KIND that i know of
