I am Paul. I live in North Wiltshire. I am new to stalking and loving it. It takes me into the woods to be a part of nature. Sometimes I go to the woods to work, sometimes as a spectator but when I go as a hunter I am part of the ecosystem and that feels good.
I cut trees for a living and some of my clients have been letting me in their woods with my 0.308 Blaser. They would like some more natural regeneration and for that they need less deer. It has been addictive. I started in May this year, thinking I might go once a month but a few Roe bucks later and I found myself trying to get out almost every weekend. I have had to rein it in a bit.
Getting started was quite straightforward but that was because I started planning it about this time last year. I made it easy for the police by calling them up and asking what hoops to jump through and they in turn made it easy for me when I jumped accordingly. In Wiltshire we do have an enlightened police force. I have not got any restrictions and am conditioned for any legal quarry so I would like at some point to try every quarry that this fair isle can place before a man with a rifle (when I can afford it without feeling great guilt).
Right now I am just looking out for my first Muntjac buck.
