Thread: Beware the man with one gun!

Beware the man with one gun!

Ok, so in light of all the calibre specific threads doing the rounds currently, if you had to be restricted to just ONE calibre in one rifle, out of interest, and for a bit of fun, what would you choose? Anyone replying "17 HMR" will be reported to the calibre police, taken out and publicly flogged, then made to shoot a one inch group at 500 yds with squib rounds.

For me, the rifle that I reach for more than any other in my cabinet is the 223, but if one rifle had to cover everything from vermin control to deer culling, I would probably opt for a 6.5 x 55 or keep the .308 simply due to the huge range of projectiles available from 110 to 240grains. I think in this case, it's not so much the calibre as the range of projectiles and projectile weights that would swing it for me.

I actually do have only one rifle for everything. not counting the shotguns...

I was thinking of getting another in 308 or 3006 but so far have managed to restrain myself...

I'd choose my 6.5 everytime , admitedly I compliment it with a .22LR but it does cover everything I shoot

I'm kinda doing this now, variation is in for a 338-06 which will be my only big game rifle. I'll keep the 22 and 357 though for rabbit and fox respectively.
The 338 will be for everything from muntjac to eland to brown bear and will be set up accordingly.

Might be about to toss a coin to decide between 6.5x55 and .308. I have both, and my heart says 6.5mm, but...
    Sako 75 6.5x55 - Z6i 3-18x50. Sako 75 .308 Habicht 2.5-10x56. Beretta 690. Benelli M2.

This is not difficult at all to decide! It must be my wonderful Sako 75, Varmint, 6,5x55 topped with a Swarovski Habicht 2,5-10x56 . It`s the gun and calibre I use most. If i could built a gun new from the bottom to top it would be a Sako, what else, 75 or older with a beautiful walnutstock in 7x57 Mauser but the same riflescope.
