70 yards world record shot - without any technical aides!

I was 15, and, to paraphrase Max Boyce, I was there! Every single one of us in the crowd was thinking "WTF is he doing?" but we never doubted him;)

Even better is the lack of daft fannying about with Tommy Cooper impressions that seems to have become all the rage - step back a few yards, quick look, then give it some welly...champion!
 
I will have to agree with the WTF is he doing comment, I was there and the kick was level with my fathers debenture seats, it going over made my day

No i think you may find we all had doubt , but we also had faith;) as that was not the only kick of the match
the others were just the warm up's

it will be a day i shall never forget
i spent the next few years practicing such kicks

If you listen to the quaver in his voce even Bill McLaren seemed to find it hard to believe that Thorburn elected to take the kick.

They were most definitely dancing in the streets of Neath that night!
