All, just thought Id share a new load I ahev been trying out for foxing. As follows:

Rifle: Remington model 7 stainless 20" barrel with Pes large muzzle can
Scope: Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5x30x50
Ammo:
Winchester cases trimmed to 1.91"
Powder: Hodgdon benchmark, 35 grains
Bullet: Sierra blitz 50g varmint soft point
Primer: Federal gold
OAL: 2.385"

Performance:
3900 FT/s
3/4" high at 100 yards (sub 1/2" group)
Zero at 150 yards (sub 1/2" group)
1" low at 200 yards (sub 1" group)

Not had time to shoot from further ranges yet but in my trajectory program it suggests 3" low at 250 yards and then 6"low at 300 yards....That will do for me.

Took 2 foxes with it last night one at 70 yards (body shot) and the other at 130 yards (head shot).

Also made up some 55g with 33g Hodgdon Benchmark, have only tried them at 100 yards, nice tight group.

Benchmark is one of the most useful powders out there.

I am using it in both a 22/250 and a 260rem, very good accuracy and very consistent velocities.

I also find it is very quiet through the Jet Z.

Agree, but considering its meant to be smokeless........It smokes a lot but I guess less than other powders. Have you used Varget? Have a tub on the way to try.

I use 36gn Varget behind a 55gn Sierra Blitzking in my Tikka

Seems to work well!

I have used this load also in the 22/250, accuracy is good, velocity rather less so.

I have noticed this with Varget in both the 22/250 and the 260, good accuracy, but velocity about 100-150FPS less than anticipated.

Brian, just have a whiff from the end of your mod, when finished shooting, I always think it smells like dirty nappies(the towelling ones)!:D

I think that my load (according to Quick Load) is running at about 3600fps so certainly no pedestrian. Might be different running over a chrono though, i dont get into all that as i dont have the patience.

Think you can actually go up a couple of point grains but i find 36 nice and easy to remember!

My older load used for 10 years was 37.5g Vit n140 cci 250 50gr VMax.= 3820 fps
Now using 41gr H414 50gr HP or VMax fed mag primer. 3800 fps.
Just out of interest are your rounds exiting foxes I would say 65% of mine DON'T exit which I like with foxes.....SOUP.
Chronoed loads in a 22" barrel.

Yeah its the standard mountain laminated wood stock. It shoots really well considering its standard. Nice and light too which is great when out walking a few miles.

These are the first 2 I have shot with this load, both very young foxes and realtively close 130 yards and 70 yards. Both rounds exited and made a real mess as you can imagine.

Anyone else shooting 22.250 adn using Benchmark or Varget? If so what are you loading? Ive just bought soem Sierra Blitzkings 50grain to try out.

try 55 grain noslers with hogden powder bullet on bullet rifle tikka t3 heavy barrel shooting foxes out to 300 yards no problem
