Thread: Full English Breakfast

    Full English Breakfast

    It seems to be getting more and more difficult to get a proper breakfast, what are your thoughts? What should it definitely have? What shouldn't it have? Where were/are the best and worst ones?

    Best ones I know of were:
    1. At my old friend Mary's B&B in the Borders, sadly Mary is no longer with us. (ok so this was a Scottish breakfast)
    2. Cafe in my local village. Now closed down. Probably because I was very often the only person in there!

    Worst ones:
    1. Any Army cookhouse where they deep fry the eggs.
    2. Any greasy spoon where they use 'donut type' oil.

    Must have:
    1. Good quality sausages and bacon.
    2. If it has beans (not really bothered either way) then they must be Heinz.
    3. Haggis.
    4. Fried bread done just how I like it.

    1. Should be available all day.
    2. Plenty of coffee or tea should be available.
    3. Bread should be available for banjos.
    4. Newspapers should be available if its in a cafe.
    5. Owner/staff should be friendly and treat you the same whether you are a stalker, trucker or millionaire.

    BUTTER!!!! not that F****'n apology for beargrease some gits seem to think is ok!, I once was resident in digs in Lymington, doing a RYA coxsw'ns course, what a beautiful B&B ... he just bollo***'d it all up with an English fried breakfast using "OLIVE OIL. AAARRGGH!" (WITH HERBS!)

    agree whith you re type and style.
    i had a breakfast not long ago at a meeting in bosch in slough.
    i had an english breakfast without mushrooms.... not happy ha ha.

    mine is as follows

    Heinz beans , must be Heinz no cheap alternatives
    link/round sausages X 2
    bacon with rind on X 2
    eggs not broken X 2
    tomato cut in half and fried
    mushrooms fresh not canned fried in butter not oil
    fresh soft white bread with lots of butter on X2

    yummy on my tummie ha ha

    If the butter for the toast/bread is on the side then it should be at room temp not rock solid and unworkable.

    Strangely, and I know that its nowhwere near an English breakfast, I quite like a McDonalds breakfast every now and then if I am on the road and just need a quick nose bag.

    Anyone know Petes Eats in Wales, famous for its bucket sized brews and postcards all over the walls from climbers and hillwalkers?

    I've suffered a couple of Mc Ds "Breakfasts" your right, it's nowhere near palatable food......errr breakfast

    It must have for me:-

    Potato scones or hash browns but preferably Potato scones.
    Black pudding or haggis but preferably Black pudding.
    Fresh mushrooms
    Good thick back bacon
    Quality sausages with some meat in.
    Heinz beans or chopped tomatoes
    Scrambled eggs, not sloppy
    Toast with real butter.

    Mac D's coffee is the dogs danglies, thats all they serve that's any good, hard butter portions are best stuck against the tea pot as soon as it arrives, potato scones are the best addition to an English, normally expected by me are Bacon (home cured ) if you are blessed!, link sausage, not that Lorne muck!, eggs one or two?, mushrooms (field ones are the best!) buttons will do if not field, toms grilled fresh cut in half or tinned just heated will do, beans I can take or leave, fried bread if no potato scones, bread & toast as it comes................. & the piece de resistance BLACK PUDDING!.

    The thing I really hate is parsley sprinkled on a breakast. Plastic skinned sausages p*ss me off as well.
