    270 X bolt and Docter 8 x 56

    Hi guys......

    I'm trying to drop a Doc 8x56 30mm onto a .270 X bolt S/S.

The problem is that even with the glass pulled right back (to where the front mount is within 1mm of the bell objective) I'm getting 5" of eye relief. (I've a short bull neck).

I need to adjust the glass back at least 1.5" to give me a comfortable shooting position and an eye relief of around 3.5".

I know I can get extender mounts but this only gives 1". I don't particularly want to cut a bit off the stock heel.

Anyone else had similar problems with this set up and how did you get a result ?

ive had this problem before but to be honest i initially removed the but pad and replaced with thinner then i eventually changed the scope.

if it was that serious you would have chopped the stock and had done with it... and used it as fire wood

ps porridge tastes yummy and helps ya grow strong and tall ...

pps mate, sorry i cant add something more useful, the problem you have is hard to remedy without making dramatic changes to the stock.

you could make a high seat out the stock

Mount a picatinney rail on the rifle and then the scope rings way back on the rail. This should give you the extra 1-2 inches.

Are you using the little short alloy weaver bases that came with the rifle ?
Warne do a steel set with an extended front base.

Look at the Apel swing off mounts. I have no idea about the price in the UK. They have that "angled" scope ring to accomadate large objective scopes.
