Article from The Economist on Big Game - Hunting vs Conservation

I read this and was quite impressed with the balance of the piece that made the point that hunting can help support local communities and by giving game a value encourages conservation.

Hunting vs Conservation, is an argument that will run and run. But what the bunny huggers fail to appreciate, is that unless wildlife has an economic value, it will never survive in the face of continued human population growth.

As private game ranches and tribal conservancies in South Africa and Namibia have proven, wildlife can be conserved, but only within the economic model of safari tourism and hunting. It's one of life's great ironies, that without hunters, there would probably not be any wildlife left in much of Africa (outside the national parks), or anywhere else for that matter!!
