Demodex in Deer causing hair loss

Flicking through the Vet Record, there is an account of alopecia in a roe buck in reasonable condition apparently caused by Demodex mite, apparently the first time recorded in the UK. Interesting certainly as a differential diagnosis if/when you come across an animal with severe hair loss.

I saw that too, interesting in relation to some of the postings regarding mange earlier on. Also intersting that this was in a buck in reasonable condition as demodex normally crops up with stress or starving. It was in the Tadcaster area. Skin samples were taken with a punch - producing a neat 10mm hole. The VLA want to hear of more cases, and it's best to make contact through a your local vet.
