Irritating

Isnt it irritating how you can never find what you want.

Im after a 6.5x55 and am really looking for a Sako 75 or a Tikka 695 ...................... nothing to be found

If i was looking for a 25-05 i would be inundated with suitable ones just off gun trader!

So much so that i am considering actually changing the 6.5x55 on my ticket to a 25-06 and just getting it over with (one of the reasons i find this licensing system so annoying)!

Rant over unless you can talk me into doing it

Dan,
I was sailing on the west coast of Scotland and spent a day in Skye at a place called Dunvagen. I always look at gun shops and in the gun shop in Dunvagen was a very nice example of a Sako 75 in 6.5x55 synthetic stainless with a Schmit Bender 6x42 scope for £1295. The rifle looked new as did the scope and when i enquired the gentleman behind the counter told me that it had shot no more than a couple of boxes of bullets.

I am sure if you could view it you would buy it as it was like new condition and being a Sako man myself iwas very tempted. The telephone number for the shop 01470 521535 Mob 07528886359 and the owner is Ben Miller

Theres a bit of difference between the .25-06 and an 6.5x55! Saying that, because the .25 cals are out of vogue at the mo, you will probably get more bang for your buck in that case.. .25-06 are pretty capable rounds.. I cut my teeth on one as a kid.. Great for foxes and they cope well with roe/fallow in my experience.

ive been considering one for a fast flat shooter.. but cant justify it with the rozzers.. Spoil sports!

The 6.5x55 is just ideal for my needs, i have a .22-250 for foxes and a 30-06 on ticket for bigger stuff so it sits well in the middle.

I will call that shop thanks, might be a bit beyond my budget though!

aye it sure is m8t just dont do what i did bought my 1st ever 2nd hand rifle about 6 months ago (allways had new rifles) and what a parcel of s### its cost me a hell of a lot of money 4 trips to rifle-smith and now the bolt and trigger has packed up . . . gun trader is a great place to look but what i cant understand is for example looking for tikka t3 lite in 243 new . . and the prices vary throughout the country so much some traders/dealers prices are over £160 between them???? my mate has 6.5x55 on his ticket and he is well chuffed with its ballistict etc just look harder fingers crossed something will come up....

Assuming that it is as described, you'll be enjoying the quality, accuracy and reliability long after you've forgotton the extra couple of hundred quid you had to find. You know you want it! JC

Oh dear may I enquire the make of this crappy rifle? Also how old it is? As I have only ever brought a couple of new rifles I wonder how I have managed all these years.

If truth be known, I don't think you will actually need another rifle to sit in the middle unless you go abroad to certain countries
both calibres you hav will be more gun enough especially the 30-06
that will do you proud in any situ from foxes to well the list is endless
If you can't afford then you hav plenty of time to save while the 30-06 works for you and it will
or is it the fact you just want another toy:D

It's a shame I like my Finnlight so much! :D There is a nice Sako on Guntrader in 6.5x55 but it's in Surrey. I would have no hesitation in buying a good quality second hand rifle from a specialist gunshop, especially if they guarantee it and know how many rounds it has shot!!

The reason that i am angling towards a 6.5 rather than a 30-06 is that i currently shoot almost exclusively Fallow, Roe and Muntjack (probably in that order) and not big ranges.

The 6.5 is plenty of gun for these and i would only really start thinking about a 30-06 if i was going for pigs / big reds and Sika regularly (unlikely)

Saying that, if a smart Sako 30-06 was to come along i think it would be well worth a look!

Dan

If you want to try the Dunvegan one out I've got some land a few mins from the shop.

If you haven't already got a 30.06 then i think you'd be much better off with just that, it will do everthing you want and well, loaded right its just so versatile and meat damage is not an issue it will be just fine on the smaller species and handle anything bigger you'll find here, go on treat yourself you'll wonder just why you needed something in the middle in the first place.
ATB Neil.

Bloody hell, this always happens when i buy something.

Now im swaying in the middle again.

Think i will base the decision on what rifles come along and decide on that rather than calibre!

Thanks for the link Flytie, cant get it on work computers and dnt have a home one so will have to check later
