Your Ideal Battery

I was reading Building a Rifle Battery and The Hunting Rifle Battery on ChuckHawks.com and it got me thinking.

Just for interest really- putting aside gun collecting for its own sake, if you were to put together the ideal battery of rifles for shooting game around the world, what would you put in it?

I currently own a 17 HMR and a 6.5x55 SE, so getting all dewey eyed and wistful I guess I hope to build something like this-

.17HMR- varmints and short range predators
6.5x55SE- most antlered game and long range predator
.300 Win Mag- boar and large/dangerous thin skinned game, plus long range deer
.375 H&H- Thick skinned large/dangerous game

Maybe if I hadn't already got the .17HMR I would plan on a .22LR and a .223, but I do love shooting my HMR so I think I am happy with that selection.

Assuming this thread hasn't been done before (I couldn't find one!) what would you put in yours?

I looked on chuck Hawks to mine would go like this

small game .22lr

Corvids .17hmr

Fox/small deer 22-250

woodland stalking 30-30win

moderated stalking rifle, 260rem

Hill stalking 7mm rem-mag

All round 30-06

big stuff 9.3x62

bigger stuff .416 rigby

as yet only .17, 22, .22-250, 30-06

For me it would be
.17hmr vermin
.243 for fox and deer
30.06 deer and anything else it will handle
.600 nitro express for the real big stuff.
Guess which one i haven't got already.;)
If we're having shotguns as well better add me beretta 12 bore o/u rather it was a holland and holland though like me nitro would be,if only.

A merkel or similar over and under with 3 sets of barrels. 1 28" 12 bore choked 1/4, 1/2, 1 25" 12 over 7x65r with a claw mount and a 1.5-6x42 scope, and I set a double 9.3x74r, or 375 flanged mounted witha1-4x20 scope. Plus a liner barrel in 22 hornet for the combination set. With this you could hunt anywhere in the world. There was one sold on the recent Holts Auction.

Have had my ideal battery for 15 yrs now,
22, gotta have one of these.(2 now as mate just give me a nice t bolt which Samuel will grow into:lol:)
22-250,30-06 and 458, what more do I need???
Actually I have got feelers out for a couple of Marlins, 444 and 44 mag, just because I can just walk into shop and buy them over here:lol::lol:

Hmm, I did this over the past year. Cleared out shotguns, rifles, scopes etc. Now I have:

12b Berretta SP3
22rf
22/250 - Fox rifle, mod'ed, maybe get to use it on Munties and Roe.
260rem - mod'ed deer rifle.
30/06 - Unmod'ed large deer / boar / travelling rifle.

That's it.

Ah, had forgotten shotguns. I have a 12 bore side by side shotgun which I use for everything a shotgun can be used for. Definitely add that to the battery, along with a decent PCP air rifle in .177.

My current battery:

22rf Brno mod 2 - vermin and practice - IMHO - you have to have a 22
243 win - Fox and deer
7x65r/16 bore combination gun - deer, boar and plains game (when funds allow) - just use it as a rifle. If shooting boar would put a slug in the 16 bore barrel
12bore AyA Coral - a lightish weight over and under for game shooting - too nice to take on the marsh
12 bore aya magnum - heavy log barrelled wildfowling gun
410 side by side W J Jeffery - clays and pottering about gun

Hmm good thread, well my ideal battery would be as follows.
1) Holland Paradox 12 bore.
2) W W Greener Empire 12 bore 3inch Magnum 30inch NE
3) 6.5x55 SE U.K Deer
4) .30-06 or Holland 300mag plains game etc
5) .375 Holland all rounder
6) .416 Rigby or 450/400 Nitro for dangerous game.
Dont think you would need much more than that, but as always personal choice.
