.243 85 grain

I loaded 90 grainers with H-414 in my Model 70 a year ago for my daughter to shoot on a deer hunt in South Dakota. She sat down at the bench and began tacking little clover-leaf groups at 110 yards....

...I never did get that rifle back.~Muir

N160: 44gr CCI200, 87gr Vmax 3071 FPS.

Has any one got any experiance of reloading 85 grain in . 243 with vit 160 or Hodens 414?

Dave

I have used H414 with both 87 grain V-Max and 80 grain bergers. I found H414 works really well with the V-Max but not as good with the 80 grain Bergers. I found the 80 grain bergers seemed to group a lot more accurately when used with Varget.

87 grain V-Max with 44grains H414 gives me 3125fps and 0.8" groups at 200yds.
80 grain bergers with 37.5 grains of varget gives me 3025fps and 0.5" groups at 200yds.

Varget doesnt give me good velocity but the groups are really good.

If you want good load advice from some .243 experts look here >>> http://www.6mmbr.com/243Win.html

I have never used 85 grainers but if you look here >>>> http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp it should give you a good starting point.
