Importing Powders

So, Hodgdon rifle powders in the US are about £11 a lb tub. £36 ish here if you can get the one you want. Please explain what is to stop a person getting an import license and having powder exported from the US providing they have a suitable business to do so?

simple really

the 30000000000% import tax duty etc the uk government puts on things.

if it was easy we would all be doing it..

f,

On the face of it, even with costs of a licensed carrier, import duties etc the only hard work is with the paperwork. I fail to see how the transport per lb of any product per batch will add the costs we are paying here. I never said it was easy to do but I want to know what is will cost to do and I mean do.

The cost of transporting it in the U.K. alone pushes it way over the top. Yes we are being ripped off but I don't think that it would be possible to import small amounts economically for personal or even group use.

I should imagine it being a straight forward process as long as all the import certificates were in place,
Not sure what the max quantities would be allowed to be carried by the carriers though i should imagine there will be certain restrictions on that like there is on primers and the design of the container that they are in would need to comply with USA law.
Not sure if it could be done by air ,sea transportation may be the other option.

Not talking small... ;) The commodity code for propellents has a duty rate of 5.7%? and naturally 20% VAT on top once your new value is calculated. License and admin seems a chore but so's getting road tax when the wife's hidden the documents.

Edit, specialist carriers ship explosives by air or sea so transport isn't and issue then.
