Looking for someone local to re sheet a shed

We have a shed that requires re cladding, it has an Asbestos roof and corrigated sides but the plan is to strip it back and wrap it box profile sheets.

Anyone in the highlands know of a company that do such a thing?

Im usually game at tackling these kind of jobs but the shed is 20mx17m and goes all the way to the sky.

Dan you'll need to put your Stag cull up this year !!!!

As Asbestos removal is a DEER GAME.

Rgds, Buck.

Dan you have a pm

Billy it will be cement sheets most companies will tell you is is asbestos when it is a cement based sheet ,unless it is 50 years old or older the content of asbestos is slightly higher .

But no licence is required to remove or work on them , skip companies always try it on big time .

Dan

It is not overly difficult to remove the acm (assuming it is) under wet conditions cut bolts and remove sheets to safe working area intact , double wrap and dispose of via authorised waste carrier to approved dump. As Bob says no licence needed and most costly part is disposal. If you are concerned about the work at height aspect then it is best to get a suitable roofing/demolition or asbestos company in to take care of it for you who will have the necesssary work platforms.

Be careful with new cladding as if it is single skin and the shed is not well ventilated, you could suffer condensation on cold mornings where ice/dampness on underside melts and constantly drips onto your gear. Use a vapour barrier over the rafters/purlins to reduce this, unless you propose an insulated roof and even then on exceptionally cold nights can still get it with insulated roofs.

Bob, I was led to believe the guidelines on the removal of asbestos were very strict.

Is it not a job for the specialist as the costs & equipmet level can be huge. ?

I do know it's graded / lower grade no licence required, but the higher grade

has to go through a transfer station, hence the rise in cost.

Rgds.Buck.

PS. Firsttimer, +1 on the condensation point it's a pain in the ass,

and going by the size of Dan's shed it would take a bit of heating.

Althought I'm sure Scottish Power would'nt mind!!!!

If the regulations are the same in Scotland as they are in England A farmer who removes an asbestos cement sheet roof he is allowed to bury the waste sheets on the farm

Sikadog, are you having a laugh?????

Assuming the Regulations are the same in England/Wales as they are in Scotland, any farmer burying asbestos on their land is committing an offence under the Environmental Protection Act and Waste Management (England and Wales) Regulations and subject to a fine.

http://asbestosindustrynews.co.uk/2011/02/fine-for-asbestos-buried-on-farm-land/

Farmers also have a duty under the Control of Abestos Regulations 2006 to manage any farm buildings containing asbestos as they are deemed to be duty holders under the Regulations

the asbestos isnt a problem, we have that covered.

what I was looking for was a company that sells and installs box profile sheeting.

look for local sheeting and cladding firms on yell.com Dan, is the existing steel/frame in good condition ? I would get a few quotes as well because a lot of firms are putting in very competitive prices the now to keep afloat.

There is a company at Buckie (Planwell Roofing I think) who will sell you a pack including all the fittings and flashings from your own drawings or dimensions.

I have used them for both personal (well, sailing club) and business purposes (I'm a surveyor) and they are OK. The IT4 sheets will all be cut to length so its important to get your dimensions right. They don't fit and to be honest you will probably be better getting a local joiner to do it - it will be cheaper and a lot easier to manage. If you really don't or ca't go that route you might try McLeod Roofing in Inversnecky - like everyone else they will be crying for work.

(As an aside and having (unfortunately) had a great deal to do with removing asbestos - I would find a hole for it and tell no-one - it never existed - right? As everyone else has said this will cost you a fortune - even if as seems likely the asbestos is crysotile and not notifiable)

You can get away without insulation but you will need to pay a lot of attention to ventilation - and even then you are going to get drips at some time.

There is also Mackay Steelwork and Cladding in Invergordon, they also specialise in the removal of asbestos. They're based at Delny Industrial Estate I think.

Then explain why I have a deralict pair of hen houses just down the road that had the asbestos cement roofs stripped off and buried at the back of the buidings and the HSE told him it was within the law because it was agricultural.
The new owner applied for planning by the local council that they would have to remove the asbestos before they could start construction.
The council knew about it and the HSE knew about it and they both said because it was agricultural land it was not against the law.

Sikadog read the guidelines it is all there, then theres no false information it is then first hand information ,which if your ever making any sort of planning application you can forward a copy of the current guidelines, which will sort any problems out as they are issued by the HSE .

They are the people that make the guidelines for everyone to follow .

Lornweld oban if you are far enough south. Planwell Buchy for lined condensation free sheeting is your best bet. Ask if they have seconds. Sometines the coating is slightly off in colour match. It is a coating not an insulation that greatly reduces condensation, Jim
