6.5x55

I sure is. The bullet will reach there if you point the muzzle up high enough....but not too high!:p Seriously, good for what? Ballistically it is in the 260/6.5 Creedmore type class so why not??~Muir

The Swedes used if for their serious competition target shooting for many years of course if you use the correct bullet in a decent rifle and can shoot well it will perfom very well at 1000 yards.

Edit:- Shows I should not post in early wee hours instead of going to bed ............... "Sheesh"

Thanks Muir.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't want a 6.5x47 Lapua to do this kind of shooting ?.....also good for hunting of course!
Cheers, :old:

For most folks the fact that a lot of gunshops will give you a very blank look if you ask for this cartridge or even cases is reason enough not to have it. Others who like more obscure or exotic chamberings it will suit just fine. Also as I seem to recall the .280 Ross got a lot of stick due tot eh high pressures it operated at surely the 6.5x47 Lapua also operates at higher pressures than normal cartridges which is how it gets the performance from a smaller case. Higher pressures mean more wear and tear.

According the Vhit 4th edition it runs the same pressures as the .240 Weatherby..

With the 6.5x55 it has larger case capacity to drive the 139 lapua bullets these have high BC.
A club member uses 6.5x55 to 1000y , the other option is to consider is .260
Just put them through a ballistic program.

Cartridge capable, probably.
A rifle and optics which shoots a 1000yds well and you want/can carry around, unlikely...
I have a .260 in a med weight sporter, bullet will get there but I don't have enough adjustment...

Absolutely yes! I've shot mine to 1000+ yards at WMS on four occasions now.

My Sako 75 stalking rifle with medium profile Border barrel held it's own admirably against the custom built, heavy barreled, long range 'specialist' rifles
that were shooting next to us.

I did however have to raise my rear mount by approx .02" to get enough elevation.

Just make sure you use a 44+ objective scope. I only shot to 600yds , with good results (140gr ) but found a 40 scope a little on the small side but accurate indeed . good luck.

Yes it is capable. A lot of the long range shooters over here use them succesfully out to the above mentioned distances and beyond.
