Domestic livestock

And if you have to shoot it in a stable get it out before rigor mortis sets in.

I use .410 regularly for sheep, cattle pigs and goats. Would have no hesitation about suggesting that it would be ideal for horses too, and no mention on ticket.
Humane Slaughter Association recommends shotgun as preffered option for occasional slaughter by livestock keepers, ie, when it's being done on farm, not in an abattoir.

are you even allowed to bury livestock anymore?
pretty sure when we had a horse die in the field burial was not an option

Standard .410 shotgun, takes the licence and sourcing problem out.

Thanks very much for your help.

No you're not, except on certain offshore islands, and I think in a few inaccessible areas of the Scottish highlands.

If you don't know, say nowt ;)

You CAN bury horses:

Q11: What controls are there on the burial of horses?
A: Under the previous ABP legislation, the burial of horses was only permitted if they had been kept as pets.
In England it is now permitted for all horses to be buried, whether they are pets or not. In Scotland and Wales only pet horses may be buried. Before burying a horse, advice should be sought on the correct procedure e.g. on deciding the location of the burial site to take account of factors such as livestock access and the potential for leaching into watercourses.
