I've just started stalking properly for the first time in the UK (Scotland).
I grew up in southern Africa, and hunted from a very young age - all for meat (mostly small antelope like impala and springbok, with very occasional larger things like gemsbok and wildebeest). So I have reasonable experience with lighter calibres (.223 up to .270), but am still very much a rank novice when it comes to the peculiarities of hunting in the UK (rain and unexpected dog walkers appear to be a much more significant features...).
My FAC has recently come through, and I am now the proud owner of a Tikka T3 .243 and a CZ 455 .22 (and a rather sore shoulder after some over zealous target practice at the weekend).
I am a research biologist specialising in animal behaviour and evolutionary biology, and I still do a few months of field work in South Africa.
I look forward to exploting the collected wisdom here!
