Hello Admin/fellow deer stalkers.
This is just an idea chaps, there have been several threads recently which are not stalking related, and yet are clearly of interest to some of us, although not all.
The amount of times i have clicked on a thread to find something i am not remotely interested in after being led by the title.
Perhaps if Admin were to create a new section for this type of thread it might assist all concerned.
If not perhaps a better description in the thread starter?
What does everyone think about this?
Apologies in advance to admin if this creates a lot of work for you.
Cheers
Richard

Dear Richard,

Great idea. This was on my mind for quite some time now.

I think general discussion just about covers everything and that it is good to have a range of topics in here. Apart from anything else threads that might start out about stalking related things have the potential to wander and end up elsewhere so it would be difficult to decide exactly what met the requirements. It is also the case in real life that conversations rarely just centre on one topic - even when you meet up with stalking mates I bet you talk about other stuff.

It is no great hardship to click on the occasional thread to find you are not interested, and most thread titles give a pretty good clue, and the good turnover of threads and posting rate keeps this area of the forum fresh and fairly active which is always a good thing. I've found that forums which are too heavily moderated or which try to control what can be posted too tightly usually eventually die just because people by their nature like to wander around a topic a little.

Well, we should not forget and also highlighted many times before by the site owners and moderators, that first and foremost, this forum is related to stalking and hunting. The General Discussion section, in my view, should be used to raise issues anything that can not be posted directly into sections already set-up, but still linked to hunting topics.

An 'Off Topic' section would only benefit the overall idea of the forum and members could still discuss issues and share their experiences not related to hunting.

How about if people are a little more selective when posting new threads and perhaps find the most appropriate, already existing, forum. General discussion is just that general, by and large it is good if it is stalking related but if it is not, and it is not of a disruptive nature, does it matter?

At present the site manages quite nicely with it's current set up, sometimes it is necessary to move threads to another more appropriate section, but not enough to be a problem. There are enough sections to cover most specialist areas, you only have to look at the variety of different sections when you click on the "what's new" button to appreciate that the general discussion forum does not rule the root. As has already been highlighted we do occasionally have to point out that this is a stalking site but this is usually in the case of a thread that is nothing more than "troublesome". Now bearing in mind that we moderate this site in our own time, it is our hobby not our livelihood, naturally anything that adds to the workload that is not really necessary is not really welcome, so one and all for now the site will stay as is.

Can you imagine how many posts would be reported to us as being in the wrong section and require moving, only for the OP to complain that in his opinion it should be put back to where it was, nightmare!

Off topic would do it, but it looks like there isnt enough interest in my suggestion so it can be ignored, i never minded reading about a rugby result but football did my head in!
Cheers
Richard

I think it's a good idea and I think every forum I'm on or have ever visited has had such a section......

How about a half way house?
Keep the existing forums, but in the 'index' page of threads include the whole initial post, that way you can see what you are getting without opening the thread.
