Starter kit

Hi guys/girls,

I was just wondering if someone could give me ideas of what sort of kit i need if my FAC application goes through ok to get myself started other than the obvious rifle and scope. Also if there are any cheap alternatives of making your own bits of kit to cover it. I have made a start on storage of Caracas's and was thinking about a big 2nd hand larder fridge i can convert. I will not be shooting huge numbers and not likely to have more than two deer at a time.

Cheers, Tom

B AND Q garden canes fashioned together to make perfect set of sticks ,threads on here will show you how .

Hat/Headnet
Face veil
Gloves
Bum Bag/Day sack
2 Knifes
Latex Gloves
Bandages/first aid kit of some sort
Para cord
Sterile/Anti bacterial wipes
Binos
Glow Sticks
Insect repelant/Eurax/Anthisan

This is what I carry all the time less the repelant as no need in the winter months.

Personal Choice and it depends on how far you are from a vehicle I suppose.

You will also end up buying kit that you don't need, but think that you do, we have all been there and done that, most of us I'm sure still do!

Rifle
Bullets
Knife
Binoculars
Hat
tissues for your binos/scope/arse - nothing too rough, will scratch your sheriffs badge ;)

Everything else is optional, weather dependant and based on whether you know where your going or not.

Nothing like a carcase tray, keep it clean & tidy !! ;)

Here is where the "Old way" of learning from an old hand really comes into it's own as you can see and experience what they use and why/how.

cut bottom off i b c to make your carcass carrier free usually
garden canes b and q sticks 1 bolt 3 washers about 7 quid
no need toilet roll plenty doc leaves use rough side first then smooth side to finish (check for ticks tho )
army navy store cammos for start about 25 quid
goto local horsey suppliers they sell cheap gloves dark brown about 3 quid light weight but good
leather belt to hock deer to carry it cheaper than a sack
oh and no im not tight the shooting permission officer is she has taken to coming to gun shops with me lol

Taking the misses to gun shops is fatal. I suggest this is cured by taking an absolute age on your next visit, picking up every gun, inspecting thoroughly, before mounting then talking for as long as you can with the gun shop owner about anything and everything gun related. She will then, by this time, have lost the will to live and be moaning and complaining for England. Subsequently any future visits can be solo excursions with the plausible excuse that you don't want her to get bored

Good thinking Pheasant Feeder, and every time you mount a gun to try it be sure to ask her if your bum looks big in it. No matter what answer she gives you take offence and give her the silent treatment for a fortnight afterwards.

I am just looking at getting my kit together and have compiled a list myself - a lot of the old hands on here are probably going to have a good laugh at this point, especially when they watch me keel over backwards with this lot in my Roe sack ;)

Tick Twisters
Kammo Gaiters
Meindl Dore Extreme Boots
Rifle Cleaning Kit
Bore Guide
Rifle & Scope Gunslip
Carcass Tags
Shooting Sticks

Harris 9-13 swivel bipod
3 knife plastic scabbard
Small and Large Gambrels
S-Hooks
Garlands Deluxe Roe Sack
Napier bolt carrier

First Aid Kit

Nice add-ons later
Plano Sportsmans Trunk (boys toy ;) )

Instead of nuts and bolts through your green garden canes, use a rubber exhaust mounting donut, it can then be rolled up and down to suit, also fill the canes with builders foam, this will reduce the clang you get from them.

Often useful to take allen/torx keys and any other tools in case you need them.
Also your FAC and permission from the land owner/manager!
