This is a relatively new idea brought about by the new legislation allowing moderators in Texas.
The ban has been lifted but there is still a $200 Federal tax to pay on top of the price of the moderator.
In this case it is just an oil filter but when the 'real' thing kicks in they will be tied up in more paperwork than we are here.

I take it they havn't thought about the fact that oil filters generaly have paper type meterial inside, so they wont take long to catch alight.

These adapters are not something entirely new and have been around for years but usually advertised in the small ads of some of U.S. magazines the likes of which have titles such as “Soldier of Fortune” and are aimed (pun intended) at the Walter Mitty characters and survivalists. They are intended to provide improvised sound moderators using items that are readily available. Alternatives are the baby teat wired onto the muzzle of the gun or the Soda bottle moderator.
The U.S.A. has some very liberal laws regarding freedom of speech so it is perfectly legal and acceptable to supply information and even some component parts to produce items that have until recently been illegal to own and use or at the very least extremely controlled by federal laws. Some companies for instance specialised in producing books telling you how to convert semi automatic firearms to full auto.

Interesting camera work in front of the muzzle, would have stung a little if a round had decided to take a detour on puncturing the first hole, wasn't something similar demonstrated at Monmouth some time back?:stir::norty:

No Steve - that was a much larger missile that was fired and I'm sure it would have more than stung if it had connected. In fact it could have taken out a whole camera crew.

Disposable sound moderator? So what would we be willing to pay for such a unit? Not an oil filter of course! lol

Perhaps you could re-cycle old oil filters? New ones being far too costly.

The residual oil in used filters would also deaden the sound more.

YOu missed the point about the adapter being classified as the "Suppressor" All the paperwork you need to fill out, for that arrangement at least, is covered by the $200 tax and the 6 months of FBI background checks. What this $75 gadget does is alleviate the need to drop $700 - $1500 on a suppressor and allow you to substitute a cheap oil filter. The paperwork is all the same; cheap a adapter or a top of the line suppressor. An additional suppressor? I believe that's another $200 stamp!~Muir

I would love to see them strap that on a .270 and put the first round through the can to create the exit bore!!

You bet! I think that AK-74 actually set the filter on fire. The 270 would probably blow the can off! I think I'd put a hole in the end first.~Muir
