Dear all.

I normally take a few muntjac with the odd roe.

Today I took this one and would like to learn from the forum

1) he is obviously old and unheathly
2) very thin
3) The hide is very patchy and thin almost bald on one side with some large white scabs

I have some high def pictures which were too large to upload.

I have attached some picture and would like the forums comments

Thanks in advance

Vap

That's an interesting looking head on him. Is that a hole down his left antler?

He does look rather old and in poor condition, a perfect cull animal.

i wouldn't say he looks that old as for his coat just changing from winter to summer coat but hard to tell by the photo

Scabs possibly result of an RTA or wire? Any other injuries, visible or otherwise? How did the lymph nodes look?

Head is certainly interesting. How far down does the hole go? Is it solid antler all the way down the inside or softer tissue?

Also, when you say "obviously old", any photos of the teeth and/or lower jaw?

So many deer, so many questions ;)

Willie,

Scabs possibly result of an RTA. Yep could be extensive scar tissue

Any other injuries, visible or otherwise He moved slowly and kept sitting down then getting up to move on.

How did the lymph nodes look? Normal but he was very thin

Head is certainly interesting. How far down does the hole go? Not far say 1/2 inch

Is it solid antler all the way down the inside or softer tissue? Solid

I would also say defiantly not changing coats (but stand to be corrected) teh picture does not show it well but it looked like a bad case of mange However this could be the result of an RTA,

Thnaks for your views

Culled one with a hole in its antler a long time ago and it must have went deep as it was seeping and pusy. The beast was in very poor nick and I presumed it was to do with the head.Might be interesting to see if any experts no the cause as mine was very similar to yours.
Just read the hole isn't deep so not the same.
