Updating old DSC level 1 certificate.

Is it correct that the old buff DSC 1 certificate must be updated before end of March 09 to the blue Trained Hunter certificate at a cost of £15? Will the BASC and other bodies still recognise the buff certificate for its stalking opportunities? I believe the blue certificate has a hygene qualification. Any information anybody. Thanks in advance.

Following changes to food hygiene regulations in 2005, holders of older DCS 1 certificates (coloured buff) were able to convert their certificate to include “trained hunter” status for large game. DMQ has announced that the facility to convert buff coloured DCS 1 certificates is to be withdrawn from 31st March 2009. No applications for conversion received after this date will be accepted.

All DSC 1 certificates issued since 1st January 2006 (coloured blue) indicate that the holder is also designated a “trained hunter” (for large game only) under the food hygiene regulations; these certificates are not affected by the withdrawal of conversions.

Any further applications up to 31st March 2009 should be addressed to DMQ, Marford Mill, Rossett, Wrexham LL12 0HL.

You can keep the buff DSC 1 as well, but you will need to have a Wild Game Meat Hygiene License. This I believe costs around £70, so it is better to register through the DMQ. It is nice and easy.

So you just buy it????? no training needed?????

You have to do the course and pass the exams. It's a one day course and
covers both small (Pheasant etc) and large (Deer) game.

£120 fror the course thru BASC but there are other oulets that run the course, although they are very few and far between now.

If you take one of the current DSC1 courses they include an assessment for Trained Hunter (Large Game).

For people who already have their DSC1 an exemption was secured until the end of March this year so that they could be recognised as having satisfied the requirements of Trained Hunter (Large Game) without going through any additional training. This is done by submitting a conversion form, where you state that you have familiarised yourself with the Wild Game Guide.

You can see the full details at http://www.dmq.org.uk/faq.htm#g2

Imagine the reaction if this exemption had not be allowed.

Do you need the updated version?

Do you need the updated version to partake in the BASC stalking opportunities? Or apply for leases of ground for deer stalking from FC?
