    First application for FAC/SGC

A friend of mine has just submitted a first application for a FAC/SGC.

He has been deer shooting with me, has permission on land locally for deer and fox as well as a desire to shoot boar abroad. He owns land which he wants to shoot rabbits on.

This said can the licensing authority prevent him in law from having a .22 as well as a centrefire rifle on a first application?

Any general advice would be appreciated. He doesn't anticipate problems but it is better to be prepared.

If he can show good reason then they pretty much have to give him what he wants.

Sometimes you have to play the game, but there is no reason he can't apply for 10 guns on a first app and get them all.

That doesn't stop them adding silly restrictions in some force areas.

Section 161 of the Highways Act 1980 (England & Wales) makes it an offence to discharge a firearm within 50 ft of the centre of a highway with vehicular rights without lawful authority or excuse, if as a result a user of the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered.

Make sure he lets them know of his experience with firearms. This will give them greater confidence. Their concern will be someone going from zero to some serious firepower in one go. Previous experience will lessen the chances of onerous conditions.
