    Foetus bones??

Someone I know has just shot a Muntjac Doe with just bones in the womb.
    Anyone heard of this before?
Carcass has been condemned and photos taken. It's a new one on me!

Yes, see it a few times per year in cattle.

If things confined to uterus and rest of carcase ok there is no reason you couldn't eat it. Pretty much all the cows with this problem go into the food chain.

Foetus presumably dies and soft tissue becomes reabsorbed.

Section 161 of the Highways Act 1980 (England & Wales) makes it an offence to discharge a firearm within 50 ft of the centre of a highway with vehicular rights without lawful authority or excuse, if as a result a user of the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered.

    Hi All,

There was a letter sent to a hunting magazine last year (I think it was sporting rifle) or it may have being longer showing a photo of a red hind with bones in the womb.
Its amazing to think she survied after the distruction of the foetus and I remember looking at the photo it appeared that it happened to her a number of times maybe the bones incurred fatal damage to the new calf each time. Tough animals arent they!

Seen it happen several times a year with sheep whilst lambing. Normal practice on the farms I have worked on is to carefully pull out every bit of the lamb carcass. The ewe is then given a healthy dose of antibiotics and sent into the human food chain if she survives the withdrawal period.
