Wild Deer Best Practice Event
The Hirsel Estate, Coldstream
Thursday, 11[SUP]th. [/SUP]October 2012

The Deer Initiative, Scottish Natural Heritage, The Hirsel Estate and The Forestry Commission, are pleased to announce a Best Practice Event to be held on The Hirsel Estate, Coldstream, TD 12 4LW, Scotland on Thursday, 11[SUP]th.[/SUP] October 2012.

This will be a one day practical workshop event for land/site managers and deer practitioners and will cover: butchery, bullets, barrels and ballistics, woodland habitats and The Code of Practice on Deer Management (Scotland).

1. Code of Practice on Deer Management: Alastair MacGugan- Wildlife Management Manager, SNH.

2. Practical Butchery Workshop: Bruce Brymer- Master Butcher.

3. Bullets, Barrels and Ballistics: Jamie Hammond -Deer Officer, SNH and Jim Govan, Senior Forensic Scientist (Retired).
4. Woodland Habitat Impact Assessment/
Cull Planning: Ron Rose – Wildlife Manager, FC Scotland.

The cost of the day is £30.00 per person which includes a light lunch (soup and a roll) and a copy of the Best Practice Guide. This should be an excellent day, the report back from the Best Practice day held at Grizedale was superb, everyone ive spoken to who attended learned something no matter how experienced they were.


One of the speakers on the forthcoming course Mr Govan is a wealth of info on ballistics, it would be worth going for me just to hear him,
