Millet Angle Lok rings review

purchased a BRNO .222 without the knowledge that they have tried their best to create a rifle that has limited scope mount options.
Having a nice 30mm tubed S&B that I wanted to use I set about trying to find mounts that cost less than the rifle.
FAILED

finally sourced some Millet Angle Lock to fit the 15/16mm receiver dovetail and the 30mm scope tube.
I write this as a warning to anyone who values their rifle and scope please dont use them!!!

I have seldom come across something so poorly made or not fit for purpose.

Points that stand out:
1)The base of the rings (that is to be clamped to the receiver is not parallel with the bore of the rings, so when tightened flush to the dovetail the scope tube pointed up enough to be visible to the naked eye!!
2) the claws are so small in comparison to the base itself and fixed with single centre screws they offer no ability to true the base to the receiver. with torque applied to the claw they can actually lift the base off the receiver corner to corner so daylight is visible between the two!!
3) the actual height of the base between inside of ring and base in contact with the receiver is longer on the front mount than the rear by 0.25mm!
4) the combination of out of true individual bases, differing post heights, lack of parallel bore places such pressure on the scope tube it will dent it without fail and even with judicious tightening of screws in sequence to relieve stress I was left with a 30mm S&B scope running out of downward elevation with a POI 6" above the bull at 50yds!
to my rough calculations that is at least 6MOA out of maximum adjustment.

a truly shocking piece of engineering
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

you would be better off using some electrical tape and just winding it round and round the rifle and scope!

I dont like Warne mounts which appear to be one of the only other options but have managed to find some original Tikka mounts in the US. Very poor that none of the decent manufacturers appear to produce any volume of scope mounts for 30/15mm applications

Could you not get the dovetail to picatinny adapter to open up more mounting options? I'm sure I have seen them

I know what you mean but I hate the idea of adding metal work just to use more metal work.
It shouldn't be that difficult

I was tempted to drill and tap the receiver to be honest

Oh I agree with you there, but as you seem to be having so much trouble I would have thought that would have been the easiest quickest and cheapest route and would open up a huge range of mounting options for your scope

easiest? possibly.
Cheapest and best? not sure.

the tikka ones I have sourced look good..if a bit chunky!

They are not know as "mangle locks" for nothing.
Fitting a scope to a CZ is as easy as buying the right mounts, not rocket science is it.
They come with a free set of 1 inch mounts from new, most dealers will swap them for 30mm mounts.
Leupold, Warne, Burris, Sportsmatch (less than £20), EAW and Kozap all make suitable rings, the Standard CZ rings (in both sizes) are stocked by Edgar's.
Optics Warehouse keep a selection, and last week they definitely had both 30mm and 1 inch medium Warne's in stock.
Kozap also make a QD weaver rail for the CZ527 and 550.

Neil. :)

what about hilvers? I'm using them on both my CZ's and they're simple, solid and good looking..they also hold zero:thumb:

Didn't mention them as as far as I knew they were out of business ?
I have a couple of sets for rimfires, but to be honest I'm not that impressed with them.
One set in 11mm and a set in 3/8", neither sit in the centre of the dovetail they are made for.

no its not rocket science and am sure if the rifle was new a dealer would do anything I asked.
but as it was made in 88 i dont have much recourse to swapping the mounts

as for easy as buying mounts....that is true.
I am somewhat reluctant to spend £90 on mounts because they happen to be in a weird combination, especially as that is more than I paid for the rifle!

I dont like Warne mounts, never have
Sportsmatch dont do a 15/30mm option
I cant find Leupolds in either optics warehouse, swillington or JJK.
Edgars sell to trade only
EAW and Kozap are both twice the price of the most expensive next model down

a quick google search will show the limited options available online

so yes, easy as buying the right mounts. if I wanted to spend £200 I would have the custom bases I have sitting in my draw machined to fit and the 30mm Leupold QR rings slapped on top.

I have just fitted the Hilvers that came with it and slapped on a spare 1" tubed scope as I cant wait any longer!
they are fine but I have yet to see 30mm ones for sale in anything other than weaver fitment

you see, the hilvers once you've had them on for a while and realise they don't actually budge, are actually great :)

your problemo amigo, is that 30mm tube of yours, you need a 1" 8x56 german S&B for that .222....easier said that done of course if you already have a 30mm:rolleyes:

agreed, but luckily I am a scope magpie and have a back up plan....

thats the clearance between the scope bell and barrel with a 50mm obj on medium hilvers!
