Cleaning Kit/snake or both??

I'll be honest, I normally clean my .22 with another bullet the next time I go and shoot it, am I right to assume that my .243 will require a little more care? If so is it a full cleaning kit job or would I get away with a bore snake for when absolutely necessary? Is cleaning really a necessity between sessions or really just needed when we suspect a problem?
Thanks in advance

Joe

I prefer to keep my barrels clean, I have had too many corrosion problems in the past. Bore snakes are a handy item to carry with you in the field and if you feel the need a short length of the flexible plastic coated curtain wire.atb Tim

I was a clean it with a snake bore man and to hell with the "specialist" stuff. However my 308 started to suffer accuracy problems and I gave it a damn good clean out with KG products. Now it's back to normal - phew. So from now on i'll be a 20 -30 man and then clean it thoughly. I'll carry a bore snake on stalks and when away in case the barrel needs a quick pull through. I dont think you can hurt the barrel by over cleaning, but i'm sure you can ruin it or at least the accuracy by not doing so.

I clean my rifles every 20-30 months as well. Good plan.~Muir

Call me a nerd but mine get a good clean with Pro Shot cleaning kit after every outing. Deterioration due to lack of cleaning is usually due to copper fouling and copper fouling can hide corrosion in the barrel which will eventually cause pitting and premature barrel replacement.

Cleaning kit £20-£30.....new barrel £400+......

Well you can damage a rifle when cleaning, and you can get problems if you don't clean... Personally I've found different rifles like different cleaning routines.

IMHO quality rifles used for stalking are better when they're shot cold and clean - if however you're target shooting cleaning after every shot isn't realistic obviously!

My xbolt wouldn't shoot straight unless it was dirty and my sako likes a thorough clean after every shot but settles down after 5 shots!

+1 for Muir
I was telling a mate yesterday thatI was having a rifle built his comment was how are you going to shoot your new barrel in because you never clean the rifles you allready have.
My answer was I wont overheat it for the first 50 shots then what the hell I will enjoy it.
His comment O F***K

Last day at the running moose range today. The rifle has shot about 500 rounds since july with the barrel getting so hot you can't touch it. Now its getting its first clean since july ready for the moose hunting in 2 weeks.
I resighted from Fmj to hunting rounds before i left the range and the rifle still shot thumb nail size groups.
A couple of go's with the foam and a good rodding it will be ready to go. I do like the bore snake as well.
