I use one which is in a brass case so it is chambered and I have found that much better for accuracy than the slip in ones. About 15 per calibre on fleabay.

I tried one by Bushnell was not too bad if used as instructed.

I had a Bushnell 'in the muzzle' version and it went back the next day as it traced a 10" circle on a wall the other side of the room when I held it tight against the crown and twisted it to see if it would hold centre.

So I wouldn't waste my money.

    Any benefit over simply bore-sighting?

I've never failed to get a hole in a 2'x2' card at 100yds by that very low-tech method.
