30`06 or 460 Weatherby mag

I don't know anything about pigs in Aus, but 30.06 to 460 Weatherby Magnum is a huge leap. Real elephant country.

Big enough for me to ask the initial q`s ha ha.

I felt like asking such nonsense as a shite stir of the multitude of posts of the same ilk..IE 270W or 300 WM etc.

Believe me there is only ONE calibre and that is the mighty 7MM RM loaded with Winchester 150 grain soft points.

TIC!

(Good grief)

Typical Aussie, talk about a classic perfect calibre and then use a 7mm:rolleyes:. You should do what I do, use a 30-06 for medium sized game and the 458 for anything bigger, as the possums do get big over here;);)

OK I will stow my 7mm rm away after 30 plus years of great satisfaction and climb down the ladder somewhat and get a 30`06:D

460 weatherby - 2,700 fps with 500 gn bullet - as flat shooting as a 30-06 but with 8,000 ft lbs of muzzle energy. Sight it dead on at 200 yds it's just over 2" high at a 100 and 3" low at 250 with 500 gn Hornady round nose with bc of .287. And at 200 yds its still going at 2100 fps with 5,000 odd ft lbs. plenty of reach then for those pigs, deer and buffalo and when it hits lights go out.

I suppose it will also give you plenty of time to recover from the recoil between shots. Not sure how many tubs of powder are needed per shot. Strikes me you may get a couple more rounds with a 30-06 from a tub of 4831.

The big question is why not if you can get one and can use it!!!!

I'd be asking... Emma Chiset?

Why stop at the mundane and poor Weatherby 460?

Why not got for a proper big bore?

505 Gibbs in factory offerings or in a widlcat the 577 T-Rex

Personally I want nowt to do with Weatherby's knock offs. Might feel differently if he had some ideas of his own instead of just nicking others ideas.

Ahh yes a .505 gibbs, nothing stops a charging rhino, in quite the same fashion, go on you know you want to.

I watched some guys firing .505 Gibbs and .500 Jeffery, they looked not tooo bad.

This one looked liked it maybe smarts a little...

There is bugger all in it energy wise..speed there is a big swing to the Roy.

You need to give Peter Hambrusch a call at Hambrusch Hunting Weapons - Jagdwaffen Ferlach - Used Guns - Barrels - Gebrauchtwaffen

Has a take down 460 Weatherby Magnum, with a second 387 WM barrel.

Failing that you can always ask him to build you a 700 Nitre Express

The smaller rifle is a standard 270.

Have a look at some of the videos on his website. I own a combination gun built by them 1974 - the workmanship is wonderful, and he is very helpful.
