My FAC came through with 6.6 x 55 and 308 on it. I have been looking at the Sako 85 Stainless Laminate Varmint 308 with 20 inch barrels in my local RFDs. I am really tempted to by it and a Zeiss 3-12 x 50 Duralyt. Its going to be used for deer, down in the south of England and some range work. The range work is just fun, not competitions. My thinking is that I am not going to be hiking over the moors and mountains in Scotland so the weight probably wont be an issue, when the Northstar mod goes on it as well. Its right at the top end of my budget. However, its really nice eye candy (to me) but an expensive mistake to make if not fit for purpose. I hate buying twice. Any thoughts? Should I really be looking at a standard sporting weight rifle, and plumping for something like the the Howa 1500 package that seems pretty good value and likely drop deer just as well.
