I called the BASC the other day asking for some advice on putting in for a variation or a one for one. I got through to a well-known gentleman in the BASC Firearms Department and whilst we were chatting about the usual requirements for a one for one or variation, he asked "what caliber are you thinking of"? When I said I was going to go for a 7mm 08 I was told that this was a very rare caliber and that as far as he was aware there was only one rifle of that caliber in the country. Obviously this completely flummoxed me and so I asked him again, “I mean the 7 08 Remington... the necked down .308”? Again he confirmed that this was a rare caliber and that I would find it very hard to find a rifle and ammunition.
Answers on a post card please - How rare is the 7mm 08? I was under the impression this was a 'normal' round for deer and I shouldn't have too many problems buying a new rifle in the caliber and if I load my own too, I should be ok?
