Nice one Cockerdog, how's the population growing in your eyes. I suppose the poacher boys are knocking a few back.
There rare to catch a sight , as they are so elusive & honed around here, in the last year , 2 have run into the car at night , on a country road & having said that I had 3 grazing on the farm this afternoon 300 - 350 yards away.
They are very hit and miss Gaz, Reds being Reds like to travel so one week there will be decent numbers and then the next there wont be a sign of them.
There were groups of 15+ hinds with calves being sighted but they seem to be down to 6-7 now which may be because they have been shot or just as they have split up.
I think they are currently holed up in the large forestry block next to where we tried for a buck last time you were up and are'nt currently moving onto our ground next to it.
As for numbers, well thats a tough one, after harvest we were seeing plenty of hinds and a few stags on the stubbles, and all winter they were around pheasant feeders, but now you are lucky to see a slot, that being said they are in an area with very good woodland for miles around and very little road access for they poaching lads to get in, and with an educated guess I would say that the numbers are static.
Very nice , good pic
