Crikey that's a name from the past, this guy fitted a set of sights on a colt pistol for me many years ago.

Seem to remember a guy called Clark ran it back in the day when civvies could be trusted. I seem to remember they had a good reputation for customising revolvers for Police Pistol comps

Gary Clark is the name that comes to mind but I may be wrong. Did a good job on my .45 but not quite what I wanted but that was because the RFD that I sent the pistol via gave the wrong message, none the less couldn't fault his work.

They used to have the alternative name of SLOW GUN Services. Says it all I think without further explanation.

If that gun needs any work doing, and it is promised after you have paid for it, years ago that would be a long wait! Not weeks but months.

One to avoid IMHO.

Pretty much every major gunsmithing job I've had done by anyone has taken at least a couple of months -good people are usually inundated with work, and it's usually worth the wait- so maybe you have some other axe to grind with PGS?

In any case, perhaps you could suggests some shining examples of consistently speedier outfits?

Thank you for your comment. I was going to leave it at my original post but following the above I will respond. It never fails to amuse me when excuses are made for delays in gunsmithing that would not be excused in relation to a major service or repair on a car by an equally specialised small workshop or from builders or equally skilled craftsmen.

Maybe there's some here who would think it normal mode of dealing to book a car in, on an arranged day, for a gearbox change or a new set of pistons and find it in the workshop, untouched, and with not a spanner laid upon it two, three or four months later.

This is not just my own personal "history" with the company and the individual involved but that of others and dating back over at least two decades.

Work done on welding an extension to the grip safety of a pistol which then FELL OFF during its first competition use and for which the person was charged £60....and a three month wait. So he had it repaired "on the spot" and on the day at an industrial unit used by a specialist welder on the same estate and was charged £5 for the same work that took five minutes. And in the words of the person "a better job was done"..and you couldn't, unlike pro-Gun, even see the new weld.

Work on a side by side hammer shot gun that took two and a half years and even then the work wasn't done with always an excuse why it wasn't quite ready. Eventually West Midlands Police had to be contacted by the customer to enquire if, indeed, the shot gun was still at Price Street or if it was lost, stolen or destroyed.

And, surprisingly, the reply was that they just that very week finished the work. Work that didn't require replacement parts and that had been originally quoted as being three or four hours work and ready in a week or so.

Countless others again with waits of several months and no response or reply to telephone calls asking for a date when the work might actually be started, let alone finished. Also a history of "standing up" customers who having booked and confirmed a visit to his premises and made a long journey on the agreed day found him not in.

I think if the OP had asked the same question on a Forum used by former practical and police pistol shooters he might have gotten several and many similar candid responses.

Good luck with Pro-Gun! Whilst customers might not have reason to complain about the quality of the work they might have good cause to complain about the delay. And from twenty years experience I knew of no one else of the Birmingham gun trade it would be hard to find anyone else who, at that time, had such a name for so long a wait.

As said in my first response SLOW GUN Services was what they were known as then.

Not just me and with no individual "axe to grind" but the collective experience by a large cohort of the practical and police pistol shooting community. Ask them and the OP will discover that my response will be far from unique.
