Tahr vs Thar.....

.....whenever I stumble across any old books about stalking, big game hunting, etc I often buy them - much to my wife's dismay!:D

I recently acquired a book about red deer in NZ called "The red stags of the Rakaia", written by chap called D. Bruce Banwell, born and raised in NZ - so fair to say a true native.

I know that there has been some debate about the tahr/thar correct spelling, so I thought I'd post this footnote from the inside back cover author biography.....

'As a postscript Mr. Banwell notes with satisfaction: "At last I've been able to persuade my publisher that tahr not thar is the proper spelling for this game animal!" '

So I guess that settles it......unless you know otherwise!!;)

(......and as an aside, there are pictures of some truly enormous sets of antlers in the book...... I do like an impressive rack.....:D )
