I had a friend over from Germany who had never shot a sika. on Friday he managed his first 6 pointer which was a fine healthy animal. On Sunday we went for a longer walk from the top of the hill down into the valley. As usual in Kerry it rained...and rained..and never stopped.
My friend took my lighter Mauser rifle and I chanced the long range rig just "in case". At the lower end of the valley I spotted a spike resting under a tree about 120m away. It was a tricky shot and my friend did not want to take it. So at least I ended up with a fine animal for the table.
