H4H shoot at Bisley

Thanks mainly to the efforts of Ndtman the British Sporting Rifle Club have been extremely generous and have offered to host the Stalking Directory H4H charity rifle shoot at their superb range complex at Bisley Surrey on Sunday 8[SUP]th[/SUP] June 2014. For those that haven’t had the opportunity to shoot on what must certainly be the very best sporting rifle lay out in the country this is a tremendous offer.

The BSRC will be able to comfortably accommodate far more shooters than we have ever been able to at Monmouth and at the same time provide greatly improved comfortable facilities. Now those guys from the South East won’t have any excuses as regards travelling and those of us who travel further will have just cause to make a proper week-end of it and perhaps socialise a little more, swapping lies and sipping the odd pint or two. Various accommodation will be available on Bisley camp including camping but this will need to be booked through the NRA ( www.nra.org.uk ) and as this time of the year is busy at Bisley it is recommended that you book your accommodation as early as possible, hence the heads up now.

For those that don’t know it the BSRC is one of a number of clubs that shoot on the world famous NRA camp. Many different types of shooting take place on the camp not just long range prone target rifle for the “gravel bellies”. LOL. All riflemen/shooters should visit the camp sometime in their lives if only to take in the atmosphere and the architecture, which is more akin to a Victorian theme park or living history museum than a sports venue. Though I can assure you from what I have seen the BSRC is probably far more progressive and up to date than most of the other clubs on camp.

Don’t be put off by stories that you have heard about over restrictive rules and regulations or of the need for a certificate of competence. There are ways and means of easily complying with everything that is necessary, just enter and enjoy. If you just let us know of any problems or worries beforehand we will endeavour to sort things out for you. What this shoot is about is meeting fellow shooters/stalkers and enjoying yourself safely while raising funds for H4H.

Having shot on the BSRC range many times I can say without doubt that those who attend will be in for a good shoot.

Will the Running Boar be available?

Might be worthwhile if it is to get some .22 L/R shooting is as well.

May I wish you all the best with this venture.

We haven't confirmed the format of the shoot yet Kevin but I would assume that both the running boar and running deer will be available, and also the electronic scoring system static targets. I am in total agreement with you that those who attend will be in for a very enjoyable shoot.

yes running boar also the running deer and all the electronic static targets deer and sitting fox

yes running boar and running deer also all the electronic statics ie deer and fox. (so no push bike needed to go down and patch and score)

Stop taking the p*ss out of my bike. There must be one or two who like it because every time I turn around somebody else has stolen it and ridden off.

I have to admit that the electronic targets are something to be seen and appreciated. One day all clubs will have these marvels of technology that even give you a shot by shot account of your shooting and a print out of the score. It's worth the trip just to see how a proper range is set up and run.

Multiman I will be posting details of the event in due course just put Sunday 8th June 2014 in your diary for now and hopefully we will see you there.

I think that six months notice is probably enough for me to get my act together and make myself available. Unless that's when my friend's wedding in Canada is. I need to check. Either way, I need the practice. They published my score after the last club match and I didn't like it...

OK, it's not the same week, so it's in my diary!

Brilliant news Mike and big thanks to ndt man for his support of this event which has to have been one of the SD annual highlights for the last 3 years. Let me know as soon as the details start to take shape and we'll assist with promoting it as best we can.

Another thumbs up for this venue. Haven't shot there for a few years but will certainly be there for this event! Well done to all concerned!

Great news Mike. Well done all those involved so far.

Probably a no go on the venison burgers this year as we have lost the facilities. The farm shop has unfortunately shut down.

Looks ok slime I will have to dig the tent out!

I find it unlikely that for this event, it won't be possible to source a venison barbecue, especially as the BSRC has a great big permanent barbecue outside the running deer hut. Hell, I'll even do some cooking if people bring the meat and help out with transport....

The wife is just happy it doesnt on our wedding anniversary next year.

Dates marked in the diary and being at bisley is also ideal as her dad lives 10 miles from range so accommodation.will be sorted.

Looking forward to it.

Glad you've got the accommodation sorted out already Adam.

You've disappointed me now .243varmint, as I was hoping to drop a fallow up to the farm shop some time in the near future to have converted to burgers. My plan on burgers for Christmas didn't quite work out as planned as the fallow didn't follow the game plan. We still had venison for Christmas though and venison burgers on Boxing Day but those were purchased in Asda and very good they were too but not quite up to the standard of the ones you and Bandit supplied.

Pine Marten I dare say that catering arrangements will be one of the subjects that will be discussed when I next see ndt man which will be February with luck. I can even tell him that we have at least one volunteer cook if we can sort that out. Thanks for your offer to help.

Scubadog, the requirement for range competence certificates is another subject on my list of subjects to be sorted. My thoughts at the moment are that these will not be required if any shooter who doesn't hold such a certificate is suitably supervised. However I need to discuss/confirm this with the BSRC as it is their range unlike in the past when we held this event at Monmouth. There is also the matter of whether we will be able to arrange for any non certificate holders to shoot, as previously I simply arranged for this event to be classed as an official club open day.

as mike says you don't need a safe shooter card as long a your supervised but non FAC holders may be something different . if I remember rightly it opens all sorts of cans of worms as they say I sure the police have to be informed and outher supervision controls need to be put in place but im not too sure on this. me and mike can sort this out in feb when he comes down. as mike says the bergers may not be up to the standard of past shoots but im sure something will be on offer the bsrc have a large bbq on site so im sure we will cope.
