Deer killers Sentence

WITH REGARDS THE SENTENCE I FEEL IT IS HARSH ENOUGH WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU HAVE DONE TO 17 YEAR OLD BOYS ROUND HERE IF THEY GET CAUGHT WITH CLASS A DRUGS THEY GET A FLAT AND AS MUCH MONEY AS THEY NEED TO FEED THERE HABIT. ;)

 the link takes me to page not found 404, the second link takes me to a deer shot by police worried it might get on to dual carriageway. what has it to do with sentencing anybody??

I am disgusted by the leniency show by our courts when faced with sick, sadistic little pieces of s##t that don't deserve to live in a decent society. Anyone who can do what they did 'for fun' should be hot smoke branded as a legitimate target for abuse from the public.

As regards the tame dear, a bit surprised that they could conduct a 5 hour operation to contain the deer, but felt 6 minutes was too long to wait to sedate it

RE: Deer Killer sentence.....

The copper has it right. There is a high likelihood that these little ***** will be in the media a few years from now, having done something awful to a human being. If they were dogs they would be taken away and gassed.

Yes, a bit strange that one isn't it?

Any vet with a blowpipe worth their salt should have been able to get a dart into her haunch, possibly with her hardly noticing - even wild deer sometimes stand until the drugs take hold. Most equine and large animal specialising vets have the equipment and that is farming and horse country - perhaps they didn't have access to dosages for deer?

Mind you, Plod were involved so that could explain anything. ;)

I back Orion , bloody stupid vet. New vets can pass exams. but don't have a clue about animal behavoiur. Would a wild deer hang around for that amount of time ? Back to the hamsters and budgies, dog wormer/food.I bet the police marksman shot it with a non legal calibre, .223

The last two or so replies show how little most people know about darting deer.

It can take anything upto 15 minutes for the drug to take effect on an unstressed animal.

And your's appears to indicate that you might either be using the wrong drug(s) or have less hands-on experience than either Morena or myself.

I believe Morena is a veterinarian with 'some' ( ;) ) specialisation in deer.

I won't bore you with all of my past experience in darting, but I've also captured wild deer, (under Licence of course before you ask), by the same method for fitting with GPS collars for research projects. Even a mature, fully alert, wild red stag can be immobilised within 3-5 minutes by using the correct combination (cocktail) of drugs.

In this case full immobilisation might have been neither necessary nor desired as the hind was obviously habituated to human contact.

A dose of a suitable sedative, followed by covering her eyes, and she could have either been led or carried, (on a specialised carry-mat if required), into a horse box. If she was wedged onto her sternum with a couple of straw bales a short trip to a safe relelease site before the antagonist was administed would have been possible.

Storm,
Would you like to state your experience on darting deer ? I was involved in the initial trials when immobilon was killing fallow ( about 35 years ago ). I wont state our findings as I will leave it up to you to reply what our conclusions were. I also had a modicum of experience on african animals. I am always willing to learn from your knowledge as I have reached a stage in life where I know how little I really know.
