Engineering question

If we have any engineers on board, could someone tell me what is considered as an acceptable +/- tolerance for centreless grinding on a shaft/tube nominal size 45mm?
Thanks:tiphat:

Extremely fine tolerances can be achieved - of the order of .00005" (50 millionths of an inch).

It all depends what you specify.

Even a quick single pass on stock tube should see you within +/- .0015"
Normally on a production run I would expect to see no more than .0001"

Neil. :)

Thanks guys, you're just confirming what I thought was normal accuracy for this type of machining process.

What are you expecting to see or what do you want? You tell us then we can advise you on what to specify.
Hornet 6 has given a very good starting point.
